About the Department

From newborns to teenagers, the Department of Paediatric Surgery offers surgical care to children of all ages. Our team expertly manages newborn surgeries, pediatric urology, gastrointestinal and thoracic surgeries, minimal access procedures, and oncology. 

We attend to inpatients and outpatients daily. Surgeries are conducted four days a week, with our round-the-clock emergency service center offering timely care. 

Our team work and patient-first focus have been defining factors behind all that we do here. Our accreditations by JCI and NABH are a testament to our commitment to quality care and service. We’re proud to have our community engagement activities recognized by earning the 3rd place award for Pediatric Surgical Awareness in India.

Surgical Milestones and Firsts

Our team has performed several pioneering surgeries, establishing several firsts in the country:

1. Laparoscopic neuroblastoma surgery in a 1-month-old infant
2. Laparoscopic Heller’s cardiomyotomy in a 5-month-old child
3. Laparoscopic repair of congenital diaphragmatic hernia in a newborn
4. Laparoscopic pancreatico-jejunostomy for children with chronic pancreatitis
5. A rare case: Removal of a hair bundle from the stomach of a teenage girl with special needs

Common Conditions We Treat

Our surgical care covers conditions like:

1. Circumcision, hernia, hydrocele, tongue tie, lymph node biopsy
2. Undescended testis, hypospadias
3. Appendicitis, gallstones (Cholelithiasis)
4. Anorectal malformations, Hirschsprung’s disease
5. Congenital diaphragmatic hernia, tracheoesophageal fistula (TEF), and intestinal atresias
6. Kidney-related conditions like pyeloplasty and vesicoureteric reflux

Academic Highlights

Our department is actively involved in training and research:

1. Six residents have graduated from our program and are now practicing across India
2. Faculty members are affiliated with leading national pediatric surgery organizations
3. Our scientific papers are regularly published in reputed national and international journals
4. We organize conferences, workshops, and webinars for medical professionals and the public annually 

We host a Pediatric Surgical Awareness Week during Children’s Day celebrations to promote health education and community engagement
